{"id":463,"date":"2015-09-18T15:21:23","date_gmt":"2015-09-18T22:21:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wellsayido.com\/?p=463"},"modified":"2015-09-18T18:46:31","modified_gmt":"2015-09-19T01:46:31","slug":"serendipity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wellsayido.com\/?p=463","title":{"rendered":"Serendipity?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve ever wondered if outside forces brought you and your fianc\u00e9e together, consider this (absolutely true!) story:<\/p>\n<p>My wife Phyllis and I were in Las Vegas this week, at a trade show for wedding professionals. One afternoon, we were on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvmonorail.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Monorail <\/a>headed back to our hotel, deciding where we were going to have dinner&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;d originally planned to go farther down the Strip but, just as our train was about to leave the station closest to our hotel, Phyllis suddenly changed her mind and said, &#8220;let&#8217;s get off <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">here<\/span> instead.&#8221; So, we darted out just before the train doors closed.<\/p>\n<p>As we walked back to our hotel, I thought to myself, <em>&#8220;We ran into people we knew at the convention, of course.\u00a0But, unlike Southern California, I can walk down the street in Vegas without being recognized. Hey, this is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">great!<\/span> &#8230; &#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A few moments later, I heard my name called from behind.\u00a0I turned around to see Rob and Kari, a couple I married together years ago!<a href=\"https:\/\/wellsayido.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Rob-Kari-Thumbnail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-464\" src=\"https:\/\/wellsayido.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Rob-Kari-Thumbnail-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"Rob-Kari-Thumbnail\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wellsayido.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Rob-Kari-Thumbnail-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wellsayido.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Rob-Kari-Thumbnail.jpg 566w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We chatted for a bit, realized they had some new babies to brag about <em>(without sending any pictures to the minister yet? unthinkable!), <\/em>and shared some great memories about their ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>As we parted company, I couldn&#8217;t help but think: Las Vegas is a town built on long shots.\u00a0 But, what\u00a0about the odds that brought us all together at that moment? Think about it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We could have left the convention center at another time, and been on <em>another<\/em> train.<\/li>\n<li>Phyllis might not have changed her mind about dinner at the last minute.<\/li>\n<li>We could have been walking faster or slower, and Rob\/Kari wouldn&#8217;t nave noticed us in the crowd.<\/li>\n<li>We were in the <em>same<\/em> place in another\u00a0city on the <em>same<\/em> day, in the middle of the <em>same<\/em> week, in the middle of the <em>same<\/em>\u00a0afternoon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Call it Luck, call it Kismet, call it Serendipity.
